Best iOS 4 ready apps for your iPhone 4
Jun 28, 2010 News
The new OS the iOS4 whichcomes up with the new iPhone4 brings new capabilities to the device and also brings in new apps, the reason why updates are being made to the apps is the new multitasking capabilities which will make use of new API’s and thus the iPhone application developers need to make necessary changes to the codes , so that the apps can multitask , if these changes are not made tha apps will run fine but will not be multitasking capable.
iPhone users are pretty excited about the new multitasking enabled platform , so are the iPhone developers who are creating the apps accordingly or have already created and submitted to App Store .Few of the iPhone apps which were submitted by iPhone developers last month have already been approved and ready for download over the App Store , while other iPhone developers are waiting approval , and few other iPhone application developers are busy creating apps .
The Multitasking is not same as may perceive , they aren’t running all their functions in background , instead Apple allows third party apps to only perform certain functions in the background , because a app using maximum resources at the back end will be a great battery disaster , I mean it will leave your phone dead by the time the sun sets and you plan to open your Evernote app to check what all things you planned to cover by the end of the day . The multitasking in iPhone or iPod just saves the state of the app and sets it in the background , a kind of pause to the game you were playing , once done open the multitasking bar and switch to the app directly and resume from where you were . This is implemented to save battery and CPU resources and also saves user time if the iPhone app developers make it iOS 4 ready .
So far the best iOS4 ready apps out on the App Store are :-
Evernote – – – – – - - – – – DropBox – – – – – – – – Zagat To Go
-
–
Pandora Twitterrific 3 Navigon

Foursquare – - – - - - LinkedIn – - - - - - - Loopt
-
-
NY Times – – – – - How To Cook Everything
– -
– – – – – -
So far these were the best apps , even more are expected to come very soon , iPhone app developers are looking ahead to get their apps ready for the iOS 4 platform as soon as possible .
These changes are definitely going to be a boon for iPhone application development , bringing in more colors to the iPhone 4.0 .

The pain point for Mobile application developers
Jun 28, 2010 Mobile Development
Being a developer I want to ask a question to other fellow developer what’s the biggest pain point in Mobile Application development ?
Design? Development? Testing? Distribution ? Marketing? Launch? Ongoing support? Porting to Multiple platforms ?
A similar question was covered in a survey. Appcelerator surveyed 2,733 of its 51,000+ developers from June 15-17, 2010, a nearly three-fold increase in response from March 2010 developer survey. The six major OS platforms and respective application developers were interviewed : Apple (iOS), Google (Android), Palm/HP (webOS), Microsoft (Phone 7), Nokia (Symbian/Meego) and RIM (BlackBerry).
Ongoing Support, Distribution and Launch are the least troublesome things for a developer accounting for 3.2 % , 2.4 % ,2% respectively .
While ‘Development’ accounting for about 21% is the second most troublesome step for a developer followed by Testing and Design both account for 15% each, While marketing accounted for 9.7% .
So what’s the number one developer pain point , yes of course Cross-Platform development , porting apps to multiple platforms has turned to be the biggest trouble for any application developer who wishes to release his product on multiple platforms .
Meanwhile there are many Cross- platforming programs coming in the market but none stand to the mark let’s see more about app development with release of such products in market .
Android Development Stats : Android the second most preferred platform by application developer’s
Jun 28, 2010 Mobile Development
iPhone is presently the most favored platform by mobile Application developers , followed by Android , Blackberry , Windows and Symbian according to a survey conducted by Appcelerator .
Mobile application developers have a higher degree of inclination towards the iOS 4 ( previously the iPhone OS ) for the iPhone and iPad , developers consider iOS a hot opportunity rather than other OS’s . The iOS is rated top in seven out of ten categories including best app store , best devices , biggest market for consumer and best near term outlook .
While the Android OS was placed on second spot for all these categories also placed top for other three categories Most capable platform , most ‘open’ platform , best long term outlook . Application developers feel that the Android has got higher potential with its open Operating system , which not only capable of running phones but can be used in tablets , TV’s , Set Top boxes , Cars and places where micro-computers are used .
Mobile application developers said they were most interested in iPhone application development ( 90%) followed by iPad application development (84 %) , Android application development for Phones(81%) and Android application development for Tablets (62%) .
There’s an interesting fact in these numbers ,while the interest in iPhone application development goes up by only 3 % the interest in Android application development stays is constant , while there is huge increase in developers interest in iPad application development from 53% to 84% , similarly is the interest for Android application development on Tablets which has given a good response despite the fact that there are no Android tablets in the market at the present .
So the question is where did this growth in iPad and Android Tablet development comes from ? The severe fall in developer interests in Blackberry development (34 %) , Windows Mo (27 %) , Symbian (15%) , even with the acquisition of Palm by HP it could only gather 13 % interest from mobile application developers , though HP can bring a significant change in these numbers if it plans to plant WebOS in good number of devices .

When would Flash come to Palm : A question for Palm
Jun 23, 2010 News
The webinar that Palm conducted past week addressed application development on webOS platform . A question that arose was when is Flash going to come to WebOS platform . Android has already received a beta version for flash , but what about WebOS . When the WebOS 1.4 rolled out in Feb it included Flash support , all that it needed was the flash plugin which is yet not out . Palm had no answers for the continuing delay of this plugin from Adobe , all it could answer was “we don’t know what the hold-up is.” One really dos wonder how wise it to make big promises that are heavily dependent on third parties .
WebOs with flash would be a great platform mobile development , but the question here is when is flash going to be integrated in this platform .
