Will We Ever Get Verizon Version of iPhone?
Sep 28, 2010 News, iphone development
According to a report in the Sacramento Bee, the Verizon version of the iPhone is not coming soon to the market.
Last week, at a Goldman Sachs conference, Verizon Communications Inc. CEO Ivan Seidenberg while speaking to investors, said nothing about iPhone for the company’s current network, but said he hopes Apple will allow Verizon to sell the phone for a new network they are building.
The 4G network hasn’t yet started service and won’t be complete next year, Sacramento Bee added.
So far, AT&T has exclusive right to sell iPhone in the United States.
Verizon Wireless on the other hand, has been promoting smart phones from Motorola Inc. and HTC Corp. that run Google’s OS Android software as an alternative to the iPhone.
“We don’t feel like we have an iPhone deficit. We would love to carry it when we get there, but we have to earn it,” Seidenberg was quoted in The Bee.
“I think 4G will accelerate the process, and any other decisions Apple makes would be fine with us,” he added. “Hopefully, at some point Apple will get with the program.”

Nokia 1st, Samsung 2nd, Apple’s iPhone 6th in Chinese Smartphone Market
Sep 27, 2010 Mobile Development, News
South Korean giant Samsung Electronics is only second to Finland’s Nokia Corp. when it comes to capturing China’s smartphone market. A market research study on Friday showed that Samsung held the second largest share in China. They have 18.7% share of the Chinese smartphone market during the first six months of the year, whereas Nokia Corp. is leading the pack with 29.3% of the Chinese marketshare. Motorola is third with 16.4%.
Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB and Canadian handset maker Research In Motion (RIM), whose flagship product is the BlackBerry smartphone, ranked fourth and fifth with 7.8 percent and 6 percent, respectively.
Most remarkable, Apple Inc,, with their iPhone is ranked 6th with a 5.4% market share. The low market share of Apple was attributed to China’s vibrant gray market, which allowed many consumers to purchase the phone before its official launch in the country.
Analysys International said about 10.6 million units of smartphones were sold in China during the first half of 2010, up 46 percent from a year earlier.

Malaysia Has No Problems with BlackBerry Services
Sep 27, 2010 BlackBerry Development
Malaysia would not be banning BlackBerry services as of now. A lot of Asian countries have banned or planning to ban the BlackBerry services due to security concerns, but the Information, Communication and Cultural department of Malaysia said that they have no issues with BlackBerry services, from security point of view as well as consumer complains.
While India, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates cited national security concerns, other Asian countries cited social concerns that services such as the encrypted messenger service could enable and spread pornography.
Many countries wanted to have the access to the encrypted BlackBerry communication, which has been linked to militant actions. In Germany, the government has banned politicians and civil servants using BlackBerry. The EUC has also rejected the BlackBerry in favor of iPhone and other smart phones.
